The Opportunity 

This leadership role drives the delivery of large scale, enterprise-wide initiatives and provides active direction to achieve organizational strategy through a variety of means including, but not limited to advising on strategic opportunities and alignment, strategic planning, and driving cross-functional execution of projects. This leader will work with workstream and initiative leaders across the organization to ensure plans are well thought out and deliver an outstanding set of results and experiences for our clients, business partners, colleagues, and other stakeholders. Working in conjunction with transformation leaders, this role will provide guidance to various teams. On an on-going basis, this leader may also be called upon to identify, diagnose and assess areas across the organization where there is a specific need to define or align strategy, address blockers (process, planning, structure, etc.), and capture unique opportunities.

As part of the Distribution Technology and Data Science leadership team you will partner with your peers to deliver exceptional technology solutions for MassMutual.  This individual will leverage their process-driven, analytical, technical, and financial management skills to define strategy, create and maintain solutions, which include defining, designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining solutions, in a rapid, iterative project delivery environment.  

As the Director, you will have the opportunity to:  

  • Develop a holistic strategy across Wealth and Distribution product areas, building reporting and analytics capability that enables leaders throughout the company to make data-drive decisions regarding the wealth business   
  • Work with new and existing partners to deliver a best-in-class wealth platform  
  • Develop strategy for digital solutions that drive forward our enterprise digital transformation  
  • Foster an inclusive culture that values engineering excellence and innovation  

The Team 

The team consists of business analysts and project managers focused on delivering software solutions through waterfall and agile methodologies.   

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic alignment across Wealth and Distribution by defining and implementing strategy working closely with business stakeholders  
  • Lead new and existing vendor engagements to build/maintain relationship with vendors and manage the intake process as per organizational policies/procedures 
  • Leads strategy of large scale, cross functional (Wealth and Distribution) initiatives 
  • Drive, direct, monitor and contribute to critical strategic initiatives—enterprise onboarding, servicing through Salesforce, data governance, progressive core modernization, controls and compliance process transformation, among others. 
  • Lead and develop a team of project managers and business analysts to execute projects consistent with the organization’s strategies. Communicate project prioritization to ensure the highest project risks are identified and managed in a timely manner. 
  • Influence key stakeholders as a strategic lead on key areas of focus to align with overall organizational strategy. 

Business & Technology Strategy Alignment  

  • Partner with business stakeholders in the establishment to define strategy in line with programs enabling business growth, cost optimization 
  • Become and remain well versed in wealth and distribution process related challenges across the organization  
  • Participate as member of the Wealth and Distribution management team and help develop strategies for the larger organization  
  • Collaborate with product owners, business leadership, architects, developers and vendors to ensure program strategy and execution align with business needs  

Technical Alignment  

  • Work with the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure appropriate patterns are implemented   
  • Ensure all solutions are secure and aligned to all security and compliance requirements  

People & Program Management  

  • Select, manage, develop, coach, and motivate staff members  
  • Contribute to the development of financial and resource planning needed to achieve department business objectives  
  • Raise risks and issues and serve as primary point of escalation  
  • Remove barriers to enable the team to complete objectives; drive and influence decisions  
  • Effectively collaborate and create alignment across technology and business teams to deliver complex technical solutions.  
  • General Leadership  
  • Operate independently on multiple program tasks of varied complexity  
  • Support and drive change management of existing processes  
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends in technology and the external environment 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • 8+ years of experience managing complex, large scale projects involving cross functional disciplines and/or geographical regions.
  • 8+ years' experience in financial industry
  • 3+ years of experience with business analysis, project management and defining strategy

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of Asset or Wealth management experience in a similar role 
  • Track record of delivering functional expertise on transformations at an Enterprise level.
  • High-value personal qualities - critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to influence, work in teams, resourceful, responsible, tenacious, independent, self-confident, high-energy, etc.
  • Must be a critical and strategic thinker with seasoned problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills.
