The Opportunity

We seek an energetic, motivated, and skilled Finance Consultant to join our team. As a Subsidiary Reporting Specialist, you will be part of an interdisciplinary reporting and analysis team in our Controller’s department that can execute on accounting principles’ disclosure requirements while leveraging key reporting systems to optimize, compile, analyze audited statements and management reports, while coordinating with internal customers as well as external auditors.  As a Finance Consultant, you will also join an energized and collaborative team that supports cross-functional strategic initiatives across the enterprise, optimization and oversees our business partners’ results.

This role will have a hybrid working arrangement (mix of in office / remote from home flexibility).

The Team

As a Subsidiary Reporting Specialist, you will join the Subsidiary Reporting team, part of MassMutual’s Corporate Finance Organization. The Subsidiary Reporting team is motivated by challenging work that delivers substantial impact in a culture of accountability and collaboration. Team members are energized to deliver timely and accurate financial reporting data to internal and external customers while successfully executing on financial reporting controls.

The Impact

You will be responsible for the delivery of subsidiary audited financial statements; supporting separate account reporting and filings; collaborate with internal and external customers; and execute on financial reporting controls. To accomplish this, you will:

  • Assist in Non-Life subsidiary reporting and audits by facilitating the audits and collaborating with other business areas to provide support documents to external auditors
  • Assist in monitoring the subsidiary materiality, unbooked entries, and audit adjustments for reconciliation
  • Assist in setting up new subsidiaries reporting in CDM and footnote templates as needed
  • Assist in ensuring that newly adopted GAAP accounting changes are properly and timely reflected in the subsidiary reports+
  • Prepare the BOD materials for certain subsidiaries
  • Provide direct assistance with production of MassMutual Green Books, registrant reporting, NCENTs and 24f-2 reviews
  • Work closely with the off-shore resources by providing assistance and supervision
  • Continue identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities for subsidiary and separate account reporting
  • Work in a fast paced and agile work environment to meet or exceed deadlines

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's (or Masters) degree in Accounting, Data Science, Business Intelligence or Finance is required
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting background
  • 5 years of experience in financial analysis and reporting
  • Produce and review audited statements, including disclosures
  • Experience with general ledger reporting cubes and warehouses; and the ability to gather data elements from various sources
  • Experience in fast-paced, agile and flexible work environment
  • Use tools, applications, and/or queries to create and configure new reports, dashboards & decision making analytics
  • Validate and test data & reports to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Research and interpret changes in accounting policies, competitive landscape and emerging trends.
  • Other competencies required include customer focus, change & innovation, strategic thinking, relationship building & influencing.

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Preferred technical skills required for this position include:  application of advanced insurance and investment statutory accounting principles
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
  • CPA or advanced degree in Accounting is preferred
