Investment Manager Governance & Relationship Manager

The Opportunity
As an Investment Manager Governance & Relationship Manager, you will help drive the execution of MassMutual’s enterprise governance framework and relationship management strategy across affiliated and non-affiliated external asset managers. This role plays an important part in ensuring disciplined oversight, effective governance, and transparent reporting while supporting strategic initiatives that strengthen manager relationships and operational effectiveness.
You will partner across Investment Management, Operations, Compliance, Due Diligence, Onboarding, and Performance teams to coordinate governance activities, deliver actionable insights, and support transformation initiatives. The role offers significant exposure to senior stakeholders, enterprise priorities, and strategic decision-making while providing opportunities to influence the evolution of manager oversight practices and reporting capabilities.
The Team
You will be part of a team responsible for investment manager governance, oversight, and relationship management across affiliated and non-affiliated managers. The team partners closely with internal and external stakeholders to support governance forums, oversee key performance and service metrics, drive continuous improvement, and ensure effective execution of oversight activities throughout the investment lifecycle. The team values collaboration, accountability, proactive problem-solving, and data-driven decision making.
The Impact
As the Investment Manager Governance & Relationship Manager, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Support the execution of the enterprise governance model for affiliated and non-affiliated managers, coordinating governance activities, and promoting adherence to oversight standards and regulatory expectations.
- Support relationship management activities by preparing governance materials, tracking action items, and ensuring disciplined follow-through on decisions, outcomes, and remediation plans.
- Coordinate strategic transformation initiatives by tracking deliverables, identifying risks and dependencies, and providing transparency across stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain service level agreements (SLAs), reporting frameworks, and relationship scorecards to support monitoring, issue management, and continuous improvement.
- Partner across Portfolio Management, Due Diligence, Onboarding, Compliance, Performance, Operations, and Accounting to support governance throughout the investment lifecycle.
- Contribute to enhancements of the manager oversight operating model through process improvements, reporting enhancements, and capability development.
The Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in investment management, governance, vendor oversight, working with different asset classes or relationship management within financial services.
- 3+ years of experience supporting governance programs, oversight frameworks, or relationship management activities.
- 3+ years of experience coordinating cross-functional initiatives or projects involving multiple partners or stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree.
The Ideal Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Advanced subject matter expertise in investment manager governance, oversight, or relationship management.
- Ability to operate independently with limited oversight and manage complex priorities simultaneously.
- Experience owning governance domains such as reporting, scorecards, onboarding governance, or oversight programs.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders through analysis, reporting, and data-driven insights.
- Experience mentoring or developing junior team members.
- Knowledge of investment management operating models, external asset managers, and governance best practices.
