Job Description

Full Stack Developer

Web Application Development
Full time, Springfield/Boston

The Opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to build and evolve the digital platforms that support MassMutual's marketing, customer engagement, advisor experience, and business growth objectives. As a Full Stack Developer, you'll work across the entire application stack, designing and delivering modern, scalable web solutions using technologies such as React, Node.js, AWS, and Kubernetes. You'll own features from concept to production, solving complex technical challenges while ensuring applications are secure, performant, reliable, and maintainable.

You'll collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, architects, and fellow developers to deliver high-quality digital experiences that create measurable business value. This role requires both strong technical expertise and the ability to influence technical direction, lead complex initiatives, and drive engineering best practices. In addition to developing new capabilities, you'll mentor other developers, participate in architecture and code reviews, and help continuously improve our development processes, automation, and delivery pipelines.

Within Marketing Technology, you'll have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of high-visibility websites and digital products while gaining exposure to modern cloud architectures, AI-enabled capabilities, personalization, experimentation, analytics, and large-scale platform modernization efforts. This is an ideal opportunity for a developer who enjoys learning emerging technologies, taking ownership of meaningful work, and helping shape the future of MassMutual's digital ecosystem.

The Team

You'll join a collaborative, globally distributed team of developers based in Springfield, Boston, and India who are passionate about building exceptional digital experiences and supporting one another's success. We foster a culture of ownership, continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and open communication, where team members are encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge assumptions, and help drive technical innovation. The team works closely with product owners, UX and design partners, architects, marketing stakeholders, analytics teams, and risk and compliance partners to deliver secure, high-quality digital solutions that create meaningful business and customer impact.

The Impact

1. Design, develop, and maintain modern web applications

Build and enhance scalable, responsive web applications that directly power potential customer- and advisor-facing digital experiences.

2. Lead the delivery of complex technical features and solutions

Own the technical implementation of features from design through deployment, collaborating with product, design, and architecture teams to deliver high-quality solutions that ensure alignment with business goals and technical standards.

3. Ensure application performance, reliability, and quality

Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize applications by identifying performance bottlenecks, resolving defects, and implementing observability and monitoring solutions to help maintain a secure, reliable, and seamless experience for potential customers.

4. Champion engineering best practices and continuous delivery

Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD processes to improve software quality and deployment efficiency to help the team deliver features faster, more consistently, and with greater confidence.

5. Mentor and support other developers

Provide technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing to team members, help developers solve problems, estimate work, and grow their skills to grow a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

6. Collaborate across business and technology teams

Partner closely with product owners, UX designers, architects, marketing stakeholders, analytics teams, and risk and compliance partners to define solutions that meet customer and business needs to ensure we deliver secure, accessible, and impactful digital experiences that drive measurable value for the organization.

The Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, information systems, or a similar technical field.
  • 5+ years of software engineering/development experience.
  • 4+ years working on modern front-end JavaScript frameworks.
  • 2+ years working in a mature agile environment.
  • 1+ years working with AI technologies like Claude or Copilot.

  • Experience integrating and optimizing APIs, monitoring platforms, analytics tools, and other third-party services within enterprise applications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions that improve application reliability and user experience.
  • Experience evaluating and adopting emerging technologies, frameworks, and development tools to improve team productivity and platform capabilities.
  • Experience working with relational and document-based database systems.
