Head of MMLIS Specialty Product Services

Full-Time, Hybrid - Springfield (MA), Boston (MA)

The Opportunity

This role leads the specialty product services, managing all referral relationships to MMLIS, including IAFF and Mariner, as well as all referral and TAMP relationships from MMLIS, such as BNY Mellon Private Wealth, Wilmington Trust, JP Morgan, SEI, and AssetMark. The position is also responsible for overseeing all WMS advisory fee billing services on Envestnet, Orion, and Reporting Away Programs like Fidelity Retirement Markets Participant Advice. Additionally, the role serves as the gatekeeper for affiliated RIAs, including Catalyst, NewSquare, Bull Harbor, and Fortis Capital.

The successful candidate will lead the team managing the PHOM (proprietary home office model) platform and all captive insurer relationships, working to build strategic partnerships. The team will focus on developing an institutional business line for MMLIS as we grow and establish more institutional relationships.

WMS is our exclusive fee-based advisory platform administered on Envestnet technology, while NFS Wealthscape provides our brokerage technology. Both areas are of strategic importance to the firm. The ideal candidate will identify opportunities with referral relationships, collaborate closely with general agents to develop new initiatives, and troubleshoot and resolve issues. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, collaboration, and project management are critical for success in this role.

As a member of the Wealth Management organization, you will join a team of passionate experts across multiple disciplines including Product, Financial Planning, Practice Management, Lending & Banking, Trust, Investments and Operations. Whether it’s advice on investment strategies, retirement planning, estate planning, lending, and banking, or trust services, our goal is to provide innovative and effective solutions that positively impact advisors and clients. This position is within the MML Investors Services (MMLIS) Broker Dealer and Corporate RIA and is a part of the MMLIS Product Team. The Product Team of MMLIS is responsible for product management, relationship management & implementation of investment and protection product offerings including Mutual Funds, ETFs, UITs, Closed-end funds, 529 offerings, Variable Annuities, Variable Life, DC Recordkeeping relationships, Alternative products and Bank Structured Notes and a full suite of Advisory Models and Platforms through the MMLIS Corporate Registered Investment Advisor “CRIA”.

This role will have a staff of 3 Product Consultants that are the main point of contact and subject matter experts for these offerings, relationships and platform offerings and their responsibilities include research and assessment project planning skills, field communications, a thorough understanding of fees and expenses tied to investment offerings, creation of program policies and accompanying product manuals. This is a fast-paced team with vast responsibilities and a heavy workload. The ability to prioritize, collaborate and think critically are key.

The Impact

In this leadership role, you will provide product and platform expertise, acting as a key point of escalation for general agents, sales consultants, and investment advisor representatives. You will discuss program features and offerings, ensuring clarity and understanding. Your strategic influence will be felt as you attend industry conferences and maintain a robust network of contacts, gaining insight into the competitive landscape.

Your deep knowledge of the Investment Advisory and Brokerage business, along with the functionality of the MMLIS Wealth Management Platforms, will be crucial. You will leverage this expertise to understand and optimize the platforms supporting both Investment Advisory business and Clearing and Custody operations. Collaborating closely with senior leadership at Envestnet, Orion, and Fidelity, you will drive strategic initiatives and foster strong custodial relationships.

Your persuasive communication skills will be essential as you roll out new relationships, features, and offerings to a Field Force of approximately 6,000 advisors and registered representatives. Your impact will be measured by your ability to identify opportunities, resolve issues, and implement successful projects that contribute to the growth and success of MMLIS.

Key Achievements include:

  • Successfully manage and resolve escalations, enhancing client satisfaction and trust.

  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships, drive growth and competitive advantage.

  • Lead the rollout of new features and offerings, resulting in increased adoption and positive feedback from the Field Force.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience. 

  • 10 yrs.+ relevant experience

  • Series 7 required. Series 66 & 24 preferred (or willingness to obtain) 

Preferred Requirements

  • Advanced Education/Industry designations or in pursuit

  • Deep working knowledge of Investment Advisory and Broker Dealer Products and the overall financial service industry

  • Project Management experience

  • Strong analytic & research skills
