Job Description

Summary

The Head of Strategy, Execution and Analytics (HSEA) is a member of the senior leadership team of Third-Party Distribution and New Markets. The HSEA is responsible for driving alignment, execution and accountability across multiple business units. This individual ensures that the strategic vision and key areas of focus are translated into actionable initiatives, coordinated across multiple functions and successfully implemented to deliver measurable results. The HEPA is also accountable for utilizing data to surface insights, assessing the performance of the organization, identifying opportunities for improvement, and making recommendations to optimize performance in alignment with the strategic plan. 

This leader is responsible for five main areas of the business including:

Strategy Planning and Execution

Partnering with the Third-Party Distribution & New Markets senior leadership team (including MassMutual Ascend corporate leadership team) and Corporate Strategy, connects strategic vision/priorities to clear implementation plans including transparent CBAs, milestones and KPIs. 

Analytics

Leads a team of strategic consultants responsible for predictive modeling and analytics to drive revenue growth and operational excellence within our organization. Formulates revenue optimization strategies and actionable insights from complex datasets. Leads the effort to become a fully data-driven culture by ensuring the organization has the tools and capabilities to become more data savvy through the buildout of dashboards and models.

Chief of Staff

Working in the capacity of Chief of Staff, the HSEA supports the Head of Third-Party Distribution and New Market’s workload and prioritization of time by managing the flow of information, resolving issues, and providing analyses. The HSPA functions as a strategic thought partner to the Third-Party Distribution & New Markets leadership team, prioritizing business initiatives and direction to drive growth and achieve our strategy. The HSEA is accountable for the oversight of budgets and headcount planning.

Executive Communications

Leads all aspects of external communications from the Head of Third-Party and New Markets as well as internal communications in partnership with corporate communications.  This includes the strategy, design and preparation of all executive presentations for the Board of Directors, Executive Leadership Team, Rating Agencies, and stakeholder engagements (e.g., town halls, all employee meetings, client presentations, etc.).

Reporting

Creates value by overseeing the management processes for measuring business performance through the establishment of goals, metrics, and reporting; provides actionable recommendations to capitalize on insights; standardizes common metrics and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads team of several individuals accountable for analytics reporting, predictive modeling, forecasting, competitive intelligence, variable incentive compensation program administration and executive communications.

  • Partners with the Third-Party Distribution and New Markets leaders to translate strategic goals into clear roadmaps, KPIs, and performance dashboards.

  • Partners with Corporate Strategy to establish a project roadmap and prioritization for TPD&NM strategy work. Ensure that prioritization appropriately reflects enterprise and TPD&NM priorities and that workplans take into account enterprise and TPD&NM resource constraints

  • Accountable for successful execution of strategic initiatives and the realization of associated business outcomes

  • Oversee strategic initiative tracking and ensuring consistent progress, alignment and cross-functional coordination.

  • Leverage data and analytics to identify strategy and execution risk and proactively work to mitigate risk. 

  • Acts as a strategic thought partner to the Third-Party Distribution & New Markets senior leadership team, prioritizing business initiatives and direction to drive growth and achieve our strategy.

  • Builds, monitors and manages the strategy and execution plan for Third-Party Distribution & New Markets and drives ongoing execution effectiveness of the leadership team.

  • Implements and oversees management processes for measuring business performance including establishing goals, important metrics and business reporting.

  • Create and execute framework to drive senior leadership team strategy planning process including multiyear planning, performance measurement and strategic expense management.

  • Drives the agenda, planning and preparations for all Third-Party Distribution & New Markets leadership meetings. In collaboration with Corporate Strategy, leads communication strategy and design of executive presentations including board of directors, ELT and rating agencies as well as preparing talking points and storylines for the head of Third-Party Distribution and New Markets.

  • Plays a key role continuously scanning marketplace and competitive landscape to identify business initiatives to drive growth.

  • Oversees, manages and helps develop annual operating budget and quarterly forecasts for Third-Party Distribution & New Markets and interface with corporate finance partners.

  • Identifies opportunities to leverage strengths of the organization and improve processes.

  • Partners closely across the organization to ensure collaboration and connections are made across projects, priorities, and functions.

  • Engages and inspires others to build a culture of innovation, inclusion, and diverse thought leadership.

  • Oversees and manages high priority special strategic projects.

  • Other assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration (preferred)

  • Minimum of 10 years of business/finance/strategy experience and may have significantly more

  • High-level thinker and problem solver with strong communication skills across all levels and functions

  • Strong project management skills

  • Ability to drive collaboration and build relationships across the Third-Party Distribution & New Markets team, with business partners and stakeholders

  • Strong business and financial acumen

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize complex and competing demands while flexing and adapting to evolving environment

  • Innovative, strategic, conceptual thinker

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Track record of effectively leading through a matrix structure

  • Demonstrated decisive decision making

  • Advanced PowerPoint and presentation development skills required, including the ability to take complex data and develop storylines into clear, executive level materials
