SDLC Practice Owner (Systems Consultant) –

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated SDLC Practice Owner (Systems Consultant) to lead and optimize our software development processes. As the Practice Owner, you will drive the modernization of our SDLC practices by partnering with our Practice Leads and our Governance and Risk partners on generating and implementing new controls, establishing observability, driving continuous improvement enabling process automation like AI driven solutions, ensuring efficient and high-quality delivery across all stages of the SDLC. This role is critical in fostering a secure development culture of excellence and collaboration for all solutions we deliver to our customers. This role will lead change management efforts to facilitate the adoption of tools and methodologies to support the SDLC (including AI), along with providing training and support to teams and stakeholders. 

Our ideal candidate will be responsible for working with Practice Leads and the Governance and Risk organization to mature our SDLC Practice. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, influence change, present to key stakeholders, including but not limited to the Senior Leadership Team, Enterprise Architecture, Audit, Practice Leads, Governance and Risk, as well as other internal customers. 

Our ideal candidate is also comfortable working with agile and waterfall teams, familiar with DevOps and CICD as a product of previous development experience, and comfortable collaborating across teams and organizations. 

The Team

You will be joining MassMutual’s Web Architecture and Engineering Team whose mission is to collaborate with customers and partners to define and execute architectural and engineering strategies, provide technical guidance and foster exceptional DevOps practices. We are also responsible for the stewardship of key platforms within the organization.  

The Impact:

In this role you will be working with key stakeholders throughout the broader organization to modernize and simplify our current SDLC Practice. We need your leadership, agility, courage, strong communication skills, passion for learning, resilience and self-awareness to: 

  • In partnership with key partners such as Governance & Risk, Enterprise Architecture define, implement, and continuously refine SDLC practices, methodologies, controls, and frameworks to ensure alignment with organizational goals.   

  • Integrate AI-driven solutions into our SDLC practices, ensuring that AI technologies are leveraged to enhance efficiency, quality, and innovation. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address pain points, streamline processes, and optimize workflows.   

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in SDLC, providing guidance, training, and support to engineering teams and our auditing partners.   

  • Monitor and report on key performance metrics related to software development processes and the overall SDLC, ensuring transparency and accountability.

  • Maintain SDLC related content on our internal knowledge management portal to help guide teams on process and templates and tools they should use to execute

  • Lead change management efforts including support and training to drive the adoption of tools, automation like AI driven solutions, and technologies that enhance SDLC efficiency and quality.

  • Serve as our initial point of contact for various auditing activities to coordinate and manage the collection of data required to satisfy requests  

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning across engineering and product teams.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in SDLC practices and tools and incorporate them into the organization as appropriate.   

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 8+ Years of experience in software development environment, with a strong understanding of SDLC methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, DevOps, Waterfall).  

  • 3+ Years of experience in leadership, project management and change management skills, with a track record of successfully implementing process improvements.   

  • 2+ Years of experience with SDLC tools such as Jira, Confluence, Git, Jenkins, or similar 

The Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships across all levels of the organization.   

  • ​Excellent communication and active listening skills (e.g., ability to keep track of a meeting conversation; accurately record decisions made and action items; and detect gaps in a narrative and ask clarifying questions to fill in missing information). 

  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills. 

  • 2+ Years of software development experience (preferably with NodeJS, JavaScript, .NET, Java, C#, Python, or similar technologies). 

  • 1+ Years of experience building business logic via API 

  • 1+ Years of experience with integrating AI-driven solutions into software development processes and leading change-management efforts related to AI adoption

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn basic Archer usage, governance concepts 

  • ​Familiarity navigating the initiative funding approval processes 

  • Experience working with Enterprise Architecture 

  • Basic familiarity with SAFe Agile terminology 

  • Contacts across ETX, or willingness/ability to reach out and develop those contacts 

  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines 

  • Experience using Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence 

  • Self-managed and motivated individual with strong leadership skills and a passion for learning. 

  • Works with minimal oversight and proactively communicates status and risks to project leadership. 

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
