The Team

MassMutual’s Worksite Technology organization is looking for a highly motivated and experienced technical lead to join a new and growing organization. Individual in this role will work closely with the team, our business partners, and vendors to drive the work as it aligns to our strategies. 

The Impact

In this role, you will be responsible for all facets of technical design related to the delivery of technical solutions for our Worksite stakeholders. Also, you will be responsible for overseeing all technical development for a specific track of work, working closely with the project team, program manager and delivery leader. 

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and develop specifications for the enhancement, maintenance and problem solving for the highest level of complex applications or operating system (s).
  • Provide in-depth, SME consulting to IT management and staff at the highest technical level in the identification and resolution of an application or the overall operating system(s) problems or difficulties.
  • Analyze existing product and recommends modifications which will enhance operating capacity and meet business requirements.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to the staff in the installation and testing of new operating system releases and in fine-tuning of existing systems.
  • Stays aware of industry best practices and recommends changes to management as necessary.
  • Considered subject matter expert in development field.
  • Be accountable to business sponsors and management to deliver quality technical solutions. This includes holding yourself and the project team accountable for delivering objectives on time and with quality, with an eye on scope and budget.
  • Ability to work both independently and with multiple project teams, Solution Architects and program manager on highly visible, complex projects. 
  • Remove barriers to enable project team to complete objectives no matter how difficult.  Drive and influence decisions while also assessing risk and impact.  Effectively negotiate priorities and solutions.
  • Identify end-to-end technical solutions based on business needs that utilizes a microservice-based architecture, incorporating API’s and Business Events for decoupling Digital and Backend application services
  • Influence decision makers to make investments in technologies that will grow our businesses
  • Design solutions as reusable components (API’s/ Microservices) that compose an overall solution that’s flexible, scalable, performant, and providing excellent user experience
  • Partner directly with the specific technology subject matter experts and technical leads to ensure architecture standards are adopted and solutions are aligned with enterprise technology stacks

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field
  • 8+ years software development experience and 5+ years as a technical lead or similar role

The Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-based applications and upgrades
  • Experience with system integrations and administrative platforms
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity, capable of establishing and growing functions and teams from the ground up
  • An action-oriented, driven mindset
  • Capable of designing and implementing complex solutions with technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JAVA, NodeJS, Spring Boot, Python, APIs, Kafka as well as Cloud Native Services
  • Experience designing componentized designs including microservice-based architectures, leveraging containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and cloud services to build modern cloud first solutions
  • Experience with event streaming technologies like Apache Kafka, web service protocols like SOAP, REST and data formats like JSON, AVRO and XML
  • Experience with Design Patterns and modeling tools.
  • Experience in cloud application design, development, and deployment, including 12 factor design principles, cloud native services like IAM, ELB, Lambda, Step Functions, SNS, DynamoDB, Aurora DB, CloudWatch etc.
  • Experience in automated DevOps deployment pipelines
  • Knowledge of Administrative systems and platforms
  • Exposure to Legacy back-office batch processing systems and No SQL database like MongoDB
  • Strong experience leading the development component of complex system integrations
  • Significant technical or insurance product background
  • Possess deep industry understanding and a point-of-view of the services provided, and the technologies/products used in the industry to effectively make decisions on product usage and investment at MassMutual
  • Can roll up sleeves and learn the applications that run our business at a design and code level
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
