Event Technical Producer
Event & Conference Management Team
Full Time, Hybrid (3 days/week onsite)
Boston, MA or Springfield, MA
The Opportunity
As an Event Technical Producer, you will be responsible for supporting all technical production aspects of a meeting or event. This includes pre-production planning, full on-site event production oversite, audio visual support, technical troubleshooting, equipment set up, and content management of MassMutual’s in-person, hybrid, and virtual meetings and events.
The Team
MassMutual’s Event and Conference Management team manages all MassMutual sponsored conferences, events, and meetings from discovery through execution. Our strategy is to streamline event management, identify cost savings, and seamlessly execute MassMutual sponsored events.
The team is comprised of highly collaborative, seasoned event planning, production, and registration professionals. We expect all team members to reinforce an inclusive workplace and display the MassMutual competencies and Winning Ways. This means having strong business acumen, being resilient, using excellent communication skills, and working with agility. The ECM team works with the enterprise to support the end-to-end process of sourcing, planning, and executing the meeting/event. The ECM team partners closely with senior leaders and functional event teams to enhance overall event experience while creating efficiencies and lowering risk for all meeting formats (in-person, virtual, & hybrid).
The Impact:
- Strategic Conceptualization and Planning: The Event Technical Producer is tasked with strategically developing and implementing the technical aspects of events and conferences that align with company goals. This includes working closely with clients and internal teams to understand program objectives and translating them into a cohesive technical plan that supports the desired attendee experience.
- Client Collaboration and Objective Alignment: Building strong relationships with client contacts is critical to ensure the events meet the objectives and requirements. The Event Technical Producer must possess strong communication skills and work closely with clients to incorporate their feedback and vision into the overall event production plan.
- Event Lifecycle Management: The producer manages the entire technical production lifecycle of the event, including initial research, design, budgeting, contract negotiations, vendor management, and final delivery. This requires the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, all while staying within budgetary constraints.
- Supplier and Venue Collaboration/management: A critical aspect of the role is negotiating contracts with suppliers and coordinating with venue staff, convention center representatives, and other key stakeholders to ensure all technical elements are flawlessly executed on-site.
Project Management: The Event Technical Producer will develop and maintain accurate project plans, timelines, and records. As the central technical resource, this role ensures that all event deliverables are on track and effectively communicates any updates to stakeholders. - On-Site Management and Execution: The producer will oversee all on-site technical production aspects during the event, ensuring that vendors, staff, and venue teams are coordinated and working together to deliver a successful event. This requires problem-solving skills and the ability to handle real-time changes or issues
- Technology and Process Improvement: In addition to managing event production, the Event Technical Producer continuously seeks ways to leverage new technology and implement process improvements. This ensures the company remains at the forefront of innovation, delivering better results for clients and enhancing the overall production efficiency.
The Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 7+ years of experience in event production and/or audio-visual production
- 2+ Years of experience with virtual streaming platforms
- 2+ years of experience with Event Project Management tools, i.e. Airtable or similar
- 2+ years of experience in key software (MS Office Suite, Keynote, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Availability to work nights and weekends as needed for event execution
- Ability to travel up to 50% of time throughout the year in various US and possible international locations (approximately 15-20 meetings and events)

- Strong budgeting acumen
- Strong communication skills
- Experience supporting with executive leadership
- Experience with video playback systems, audio consoles, projection systems, lighting systems.
- Tech-savvy and able to learn/adopt new technology tools and platforms quickly
- Organized and able to plan appropriate project timelines, work backward from deadlines, identify milestones and owners, and execute against a plan
- Proven written and communication skills
- Fluent in both Mac and Windows environments
- Project management/program management skills
- Business communications experience
- Advanced experience with Vectorworks and CAD development
- Continuous improvement mindset with a commitment to introducing new and innovative ideas and communications approaches
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work with a variety of behavioral styles & levels of management
- Ability to think and adapt quickly to a fast-moving range of issues while remaining calm under pressure
- Ability to be proactive, anticipate and problem solve quickly
