Job Posting Title Head of Enterprise Risk Management Programs
The Opportunity
As the Head of Enterprise Risk Management Programs, you will be responsible for leading the development, the implementation and the maintenance of key components of the Risk Management Framework and align with the Enterprise’s Governance, Risk and Compliance strategy. This is a critical and influential role within Enterprise Risk Management and across the 3 lines of defense model, reporting to the Head of Risk Strategy. As part of the Risk Strategy team, you will also support and lead aspects of the ERM strategy planning process and working across ERM leadership to ensure ERM’s True North and strategic pillars aligns with the MassMutual’s financial and strategic goals.
The Team
As MassMutual navigates evolving risks in our industry and in support of MassMutual’s goals, our ERM operating model must continue to evolve. The Risk Strategy team collaborates with ERM leadership and key stakeholders to evolve the Enterprise’s enterprise risk management framework and provide the necessary context and analysis that ensures we are best positioned to manage these risks. The team will do this through various ways, including technology platforms, assessments, risk stewardships, consolidation of information to provide cohesive and comprehensive view of risks and the management, prioritization and coordination of ERM organization activities.

Your responsibilities will contribute to the achievement of the ERM organization’s vision to effectively manage risks faced by MassMutual and its subsidiaries and enable the enterprise to achieve its mission and strategy through business partnership and risk stewardship.
Enterprise Risk Management Framework
- Drive the evolution and continuous improvement of the Risk Framework to ensure it remains agile, scalable and commensurate to MassMutual risk profile. Facilitate the engagement with ERM senior leadership team and other lines of defense to evolve the Framework and update governance documents accordingly.
- Partner with technology leaders to prioritize efforts in organization’s GRC technology to align with evolution of the ERM Framework
- Lead initiatives to ensure robust risk culture through education and communication; develop training content related to the Framework and related documents
Strategic Planning
- Contribute and help support elements of the ERM organization’s strategic planning design and process.
- Support the connection, articulation and adoption of ERM’s strategy, objectives and priorities in support of the enterprise’s strategy
- Ensure connectedness of the ERM organization’s execution back to strategy and through communications
- Oversee the coordination with ERM leaders and Finance to manage ERM's budget and forecast process and understand the financial impacts of the budget including: Forecasting, Invoice Management, Budget approval process, Cost Center Management, Annual budget compilation, and Budget reporting and communication
Culture, Engagement & Change Management
- Role model / champion the evolution of the ERM culture.
- Develop and strengthen internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the ERM organization.
- Create a cohesive communication plan and develop artifacts related to ERM priorities including Enterprise Risk Committee, Board materials, and other strategy team deliverables.
- Support coordination of ERM and PG&D division meetings, offsites and annual events
Minimum qualifications
- 8 years to 10+ years of related experience in insurance or financial services
- Demonstrated experience in developing risk framework and collaborating with technology teams to implement functionality to meet the framework requirements
- Experience with project or portfolio management and scorecards, metrics and dashboards.
- Expert presentation and artifact creation
The Ideal Qualifications
- MBA or equivalent
- Experience in risk consulting
- Change management mindset
- Understanding of the financial regulatory environment for the insurance industry
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with peers and key partners throughout the organization.
- Comfortable working collaboratively across the organization in a complex, fast paced, dynamic and continually evolving business environment.
- Understanding of how to manage and deploy large-scale, cross organization programs and employ a creative approach to problem solving, with a demonstrated ability to think strategically, enjoy managing multiple projects simultaneously and handling difficult situations.
- High degree of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality with business & organizational information.
- Able to garner support and gain momentum to bring new ideas through to implementation
- Demonstrated ability to understand how tasks and milestones collaborate and connect across related department objectives.
- Prior track record in building partnerships with all levels of the organization
- Experience communicating and/or presenting to senior leaders.
- Willingness to volunteer and lean in
- Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
