Strategic Communications Consultant: Corporate Functions

The Opportunity
If you’re looking to be part of a Communications team that works hard and loves what they do, you’ve just found your next role. As a Communication Consultant, you’ll use your skill, passion and creativity to help us continue to enhance the MassMutual employee experience related to our corporate functions – from human resources and diversity, equity and inclusion to finance, investment management, enterprise risk and law, and more.
To make things even more interesting, you’ll also lead or participate in the planning and execution of communication strategies for enterprise-wide initiatives, with the support of a strong multi-disciplinary communication team covering media, digital, and executive communications. While we’d love to tell you exactly what kinds of projects to expect, you just never know – but that’stotally OK because you’re eager for new challenges.
We’re looking for someone who can provide exceptional communication counsel. Someone who is eager to learn and grow, thinks holistically and cross-functionally about communications, is an unbelievable project manager, can see and mitigate an issue brewing a mile away, loves working with others, and puts words together in such a way that makes employees (our main customer) tell us they just. can’t. stop. reading.

The Team
As a member of MassMutual’s Strategic Communications team, you’ll work closely with leaders across the company to develop and execute communication strategies that help us achieve our goals and improve the employee experience. In this role, you’ll use your knowledge, skill, and creativity to lead communication efforts to develop communication strategies to tell the story of how MassMutual creates better experiences for policyowners, advisors and employees.
The Impact
Inform, engage, connect and inspire MassMutual employees through clear, straightforward communications that help drive an awesome employee experience.
Work with internal partners to identify communication needs and develop strategies and materials that highlight work going on across our corporate functions (HR, Corporate Finance, Enterprise Risk, Investment Management, Law) making connections across various initiatives and connecting it to our broader strategy.
Partner with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to tell our story – including but not limited to our DEI strategy and related initiatives, promoting business resource group and education opportunities, and more.
Work cross-functionally to help identify and prepare for emerging social issues and proactively develop communications as needed in a timely manner.
Lead or support various large-scale, cross-functional communication initiatives as needed, partnering across Strategic Communications and the company or enterprise as appropriate.
Develop clear and concise messages using both words and visuals, partnering with our Digital team to also create eye-catching, impactful deliverables.
Participate in data-driven analysis of communications effectiveness and adapt/respond to findings.
The Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
8+ years communications experience, with demonstrated experience communicating social issues.
The Ideal Qualifications
A clear passion for communications and enhancing the employee experience
Proven ability to lead multi-faceted, cross functional communication projects from end-to-end
Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely on a variety of complex topics
Ability to collaborate and influence across and at all levels of the organization
Ability to establish and meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Proven ability to incorporate visuals (graphics, photos, video, etc.) into communication plans to create memorable, impactful communication deliverables and campaigns
Experienced in coordinating and running executive level all-employee meetings (logistics, agenda, talking points, etc.)
Willingness to serve as a mentor and role model for other communicators
Commitment to understanding and applying communication best practices and innovative techniques as appropriate
