Job Description

The Team

The Data Services and Engineering team in Enterprise IT Product and Operations Technology organization, is comprised of highly skilled, collaborative, problem solvers who are motivated to create innovative solutions that exceed the changing needs of our customers and move MassMutual forward. As a Data Architect you’ll have an opportunity to partner with other experienced technology resources to transform the existing data technology stack to support current and new business processes adopting a cloud first approach.

The Opportunity

As a Data Architect you are proficient in in enterprise, application, and information data architecture design, and are experienced working in an Agile development environment and as well as understand SDLC. You’ll use your skills to lead and contribute into the design, development, and review of architectural deliverables. You’ll also contribute to the development and maintenance of data applications towards Analytical and Operational use cases spanning into data, software, and infrastructure architecture and will assure that the data application architecture is aligned to business domain architecture and enterprise data architecture standards. You’re an excellent communicator with the confidence to present to executive level audiences, and proficient in driving conversations with senior technologists within cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and establish a sound Architecture towards building data ecosystem for persisting, processing, consuming, and analyzing data. 
  • Maintain end-to-end vision of dataflow for applications under his/her purview. Design and lead implementation of data integration solutions supporting data at various latency up to near real-time data.
  • Provide strategic thinking and solutions. Proactively assess the current state of the technology and identify gaps and overlaps. Capture future state technology vision in actionable, context-specific roadmaps.
  • Lead the adoption of cloud data technologies, while supporting a transition path from matured to emerging technology stack with minimal disruption to critical data applications.
  • Develop and enforce policies around data quality, data security, data retention, data stewardship, and proactively identify and support project impacts.
  • Serves as an expert level technical resource, may act as a project lead. He/she won’t have direct reports but will influence and direct activities of teams across multiple initiatives.
  • Work in a team-based environment including a global workforce, vendors, and third-party contractors. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical field of study
  • 8+ years applications design & development experience, with substantial focus in enterprise, application and information data architecture design.
  • 5+ years of database and application development experience using relational databases, big data, and cloud data technologies.
  • 4+ years of experience in all facets of architecture for transactional and operational reporting and analytical solutions - data warehouse, data mart, data lake, reference data, master data management; and enabling enterprise-grade BI, Reporting, and Analytics solutions.
  • 2+ years of experience in building, designing data applications leveraging AWS Cloud services and tools like S3, Lambda, Glue, Aurora, Athena etc.
  • 3+ years of experience in defining and using data security frameworks, data quality frameworks, metadata management & data catalogs and data governance frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Hadoop, Spark, Scala, and event-streaming design & implementation using Kafka.
  • Experience with Vertica or other columnar database, and understanding of unified data analytics platform like Snowflake, Databricks etc.
  • Experience with NoSQL, document database like MongoDB.
  • Working knowledge of REST API for data interchange, and experience in API-led integrations.
  • Understanding of automated DevOps deployment pipelines.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale data modeling concepts including dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, schema on read, irregular dimensions, and surrogate, compound and intelligent keys.
  • Experience with reviewing, tuning and debugging SQL, Python scripting, database scripting, and resolving application specific bottlenecks.
  • Data Architect experience within Life Insurance or Financial domain.
  • Strong consultative skills at a cross-functional level, and able to work independently.
  • Excellent mentoring skills and the desire to contribute to efforts beyond the scope of the day-to-day project work.
