ETL Developer – Mastery Level
Wealth Management Technology
Full-time, Hybrid, Springfield, MA
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Mastery-Level ETL Developer to lead the design, build, and optimization of scalable ELT/ETL pipelines that deliver business-critical data to the MassMutual Data Platform. This is a highly technical leadership role requiring hands-on experience with Informatica (IICS/IDMC), Python, advanced SQL, cloud data platforms, orchestration frameworks, and data governance. You will be a key contributor to MassMutual’s next-generation data engineering ecosystem, ensuring performance, reliability, security, and future scalability.
The Team
The Wealth Management Technology Team is global with team members located in 3 countries. We support a complex and very dynamic business for product delivery, financial planning services, lending services, and investment operations. The team’s mission statement is to “provide exceptional service and support to project workstreams and business stakeholders by meeting or exceeding expectations”; and a guiding principle is to “deliver the best quality solution as quickly as possible without compromising best practices or strategic goals”. The Impact - Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Design and develop complex ELT/ETL pipelines using Informatica IICS/IDMC, Python, and SQL to extract, transform, and load data from relational databases, flat files, and APIs.
Translate high-level business requirements into detailed technical solutions and data workflows, Work very closely with both business and technical stakeholders.
Ingest and integrate data from disparate sources into centralized data lakes and data warehouses using cloud-native architecture.
Ensure data quality through robust cleansing, validation, and profiling techniques, including the implementation of custom and reusable validation rules.
Implement high-quality, cost-effective and sustainable solutions.
Implement best practices for performance tuning, error handling, failover recovery, job logging, and alerting mechanisms.
Perform Unit testing, system testing, and implementation support.
Guide and mentor junior team members in best practices for IICS/IDMC
Build reusable tools and components to accelerate pipeline development, streamline migration efforts, and improve maintainability.
Participate in all phases of project planning, execution and testing, producing artifacts per SDLC audit requirements.
Collaborate with data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and platform engineers to enable seamless data flow and pipeline observability.
Document technical specifications, data lineage, and transformation logic for audit, compliance, and handover purposes.
Assist other development teams, including application development, by supporting code reviews and/or development efforts
The Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science or related technical field
- 8 + years of software engineering/development
- 5 + years of ETL/ELT development experience with Informatica (PowerCenter writing Unix shell scripts, IDMC)
- 2 + years of experience using IDMC
- 5 + years of advanced SQL experience on multiple DBMS technologies, such as MS SQL Server, Teradata, and Vertica, including performance tuning, window functions, CTEs, and indexing strategies
- 5 + years of experience developing ETL/ELT logic using Python (pandas, pySpark, data validation, transformation scripting)
- 3 + years of experience working with AWS Cloud, including S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, etc.
- 5 + years of experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Control-M, or Maestro (Dynamic Workload console
The Ideal Qualifications
- Additional development experience in Java 17+, Spring Boot, Kafka, React.js, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub, and Jenkins
- Experience with wealth management or financial services projects
- Strong knowledge of architecture principles, development standards, and best practices
- Advanced knowledge and experience with Data Governance and MDM technologies and methodologies
- Experience data modelling in support of an enterprise data warehouse and custom application databases
- Experience with data lake technologies such as Data Bricks
- Experience maintaining and supporting business critical custom build applications
- Experience maintaining and publishing standards and best practices with respect to DB architecture, design, naming, back-up, security, and usage
- Designs and develops packages, stored procedures, functions, views, queries and other related jobs to facilitate application access to data
- Knowledge and experience unit testing using test driven development
- Assist in troubleshooting, analyzing, and optimizing DB performance issues
- Can do attitude, with the ability to drive to success in both independent and group projects
- Demonstrated experience and ability to deliver results quickly in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects
- Ability to work with other IT groups and business users
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting capabilities
- Proven leadership experience and the ability to mentor junior developers
- Highly organized, self-driven, and accountable with a focus on continuous improvement
