Job Description
The Opportunity
As a Developer you will be working in a fast paced, innovative, and collaborative environment on exciting business and technology directives. You will have end to end ownership across various Underwriting initiatives across various application platforms. processes. As part of this role, you will be working with variety of stakeholders, contributing and influencing decision-making.
The Team
You will be joining MassMutual’s Underwriting Technology Team. The Underwriting Technology team consists of product owner/manager, developers, engineers, analysts, testers focused on delivering software solutions through waterfall and agile methodologies. You will be part of a team that is technical, highly motivated and excels at working in a fast paced and always evolving environment with agility and resilience.
The Impact:
Primary responsibilities include-
- Maintains and prioritizes the Product Backlog, ensures that the team is working on stories that maximize business value and deliver necessary fixes and functionality to business customers.
- Serves as the Technical liaison to the supported business group by listening to and understanding key business objectives and strategy of the product.
- Engages and establishing effective working relationships with business owners and stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment.
- Works with Business Stakeholders to define and prioritize the Product Backlog refinement, manages road map, and establish intake mechanism.
- Assesses business value and prioritization all stories to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that align with product strategy.
- Provide inputs to ensure user stories clearly communicate customer/Stakeholder needs to the development team; work with team to clarify stories as necessary.
- Advises Business Stakeholders on decisions impacting product functionality.
- Participates and prepares for Strategic and Program Planning.
- Participates in team demo, retro, and Inspect and Adapt.
- Maintains oversight, understands inter-team dependencies, escalate issues, identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Partner with Project Managers / Scrum Leads and Delivery Lead in understanding the level of agility and adoption of delivery methodology; coaching other team members
- Working within project planning constraints, communicating any identified project risks and issues to the project manager
- Assists the teams to make sure all individuals working on a build understand the goal, design and deliverables. Willing to be challenged and work through those differences.
- Provide technical expertise and support to design, development, implementation, testing, documentation, and operation of systems and/or applications that support Mass mutual applications/platforms & integrations.
- Writing or reviewing software system documentation and ability to share knowledge is a must.
- Produce high quality work, that can be used to guide the work of other engineers.
- Guide the enhancements of our code libraries through code reviews that conveys a strategic vision.
The Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field
- 8+ years of experience as a Solution Architect or similar role in the technology domain.
- 2+ years of experience as a Tech Lead who can be hands-on and guide a team of technical resources.
The Ideal Qualifications
- Masters degree
- Experienced with large scale complex transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrates understanding of insurance business operates and specially experience with Underwriting processes, rules engine, and reporting.
- Should display and drive Accountability, Agility and Leadership
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF) are a plus.
- Self-managed and motivated individual with strong leadership skills.
- Works with minimal oversight and proactively communicates status and risks to project leadership.
- Extensive experience of providing architectural direction to technical team
- Strong interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on the ability to effectively influence others

Salary Range: $144,800.00-$190,000.00
