Financial Accounting Systems - Head of Solution Design and Implementation

About the Corporate Controller Organization:

The Controllers Organization is responsible for delivering on the foundation of credibility and control of the core financial information leveraged across Finance to communicate with leadership, key business partners and regulators on the enterprise’s actual results, forecast implications and strategic decision making.  This work considers legal entity structures, distribution channel and product results as well as how these impact our capital optimization and operating liquidity.

The Opportunity

The Financial Accounting Systems - Solution Design and Implementation Lead is a newly created role that will be responsible for the requirements, solution design and testing areas of the MassMutual’s enterprise accounting systems upgrade to SAP’s S4/Hana platform. The person in this position will lead a team and report directly to the Head of Finance Accounting Systems Transformation (FAST).

As a Solution and Implementation Lead you will be responsible for:

  • Understanding the capabilities and functionalities of the SAP S4/Hana accounting platform
  • Business process mapping and gap analysis across Finance
  • Finalizing scope, business requirements and functional requirements working with process owners, program workstream owners and technology partners.  Propose optimal configurations for operational accounting activities within the general ledger to meet business unit reporting requirements as well as external regulatory filings and other audit requirements. Consider governance and internal control procedures and ensure redesigned processes and functionalities maintain and strengthen control environment.
  • Defining and finalizing the solution design and implementation plan
  • Defining Benefit Realization framework
  • Designing the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) criteria, testing plan and detailed scenarios
  • Own and manage the UAT execution including business sign-offs; collaborate with process owners and program team on defect resolution

You will be expected to take proactive ownership and drive workstreams to completion. You will lead and supervise a team of MassMutual employees and implementation partner(s) working on the workstream under your ownership.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 12-15 years of SAP implementation experience in a technical or functional role in the insurance industry
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting, closing, consolidation and reporting processes, preferably in Insurance industry
  • Excellent knowledge of the SAP general ledger, FPSL, Group Reporting, Cash Disbursement, Fixed Asset, AP and AR and related configuration opportunities for a complex financial institution with multi-currency transactions. We will consider other large ERP system for the right candidate (Oracle).
  • BS in accounting and finance; MBA or equivalent preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant or SAP Certification (Specialist or Professional)

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with senior management and influence decision making
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to adapt to change
  • Ability to proactively take ownership of projects and drive them through to
  • Experience working in a Finance transformational setting; driving change and managing competing priorities.
  • Ability to assess alternative configuration options within the general ledger, given regulatory and business reporting requirements and make comprehensive recommendations for optimal set up
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with all levels of personnel, from staff to executive management
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the
  • Travel between New York, Boston and Springfield required
