Job Description

The Opportunity

The new Head of Life New Business position is accountable for developing the Life New Business long-term business strategy aligned with the Operations’ Advisor-first business strategy. The leader will also be responsible for the end-to-end execution of the New Business organization’s transformation into a new operating model. This new leadership role will be required to ensure the New Business Operating Model is fully implemented and operationalized. This position will lead the evolution of the Case Management function to include further leveraging the MassMutual global workforce strategy.

The Team

The Head of Life New Business will report directly into the Head of New Business Protection and Underwriting.

This new leader will be accountable for managing the new Account Management and Case Management functions as well as Conversions, Re-issue, Sustainability, and New Business Operations 1035.

Total headcount and people leadership accountability for approximately 220 managers and individual contributors domestically, both hybrid and remote. In additional this new leader will be accountable for the work performed oversees by MM India (headcount #TBD)

The Impact:

  • Accountable for New Business operating model that leverages a relationship-based model that uses data for optimal outcomes while measuring performance metrics, client and employee experience, and service levels.
  • Partners closely with Distribution, Product, and other functions within the Operations organizations within the company to ensure customer/advisor expectations are achieved.
  • Engages frequently with advisors and brokers as to gain feedback that will help evolve our evolving new business capabilities and process.
  • Manages relationship and execution with strategic vendor partnerships that perform work activities for the company.
  • Leads the development and implementation of appropriate business procedures for the Onboarding organization, designs the appropriate organizational structure and staffing models, and ensures that organizational structure and processes are properly aligned with business goals.
  • Oversees a team of direct and indirect reports to ensure all aspects of customer onboarding/follow up and processing delivers an exceptional advisor, customer and employee experience.
  • Responsible for areas of the MassMutual New business domestic and global
  • Operations talent champion: accountable for the attraction, development, and retention of employees with the skills and capabilities to facilitate the Advisor-first strategy and accountable for instilling that mindset.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years of experience working in operations, program management or a related field.
  • At least 5+ years of experience directly managing teams.
  • 10+ years Life or MMSD Insurance industry experience including Brokerage General Agency and Third-Party Brokerage relationships.
  • Strong leadership experience with a proven track record of transforming processes and experiences, and a passionate and demonstrated talent mindset.
  • Strong technical acumen that aids in advancing our transformational capabilities.
  • Adept at articulating a vision, providing associates with a sense of purpose, and driving a strong organizational climate.
  • Ability to consult and collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to solve complex problems and improve quality and service.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to interface, influence and collaborate with senior leaders across the enterprise. Able to work across businesses to gain buy-in and build partnerships to achieve objectives.
  • Innovative problem solving and strategic thinking skills, along with strong business and operational acumen and analytical capabilities. Proven success in process excellence, continuous improvement, and project management.
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple teams responsible for Group Insurance Operations.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, ideally with an Agile or Continuous Improvement background, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing remote workforce ensuring collaboration, engagement and productivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate and successfully lead teams through an ever-changing environment.  
  • Demonstrates strong energy level and a passion for service and performance excellence. Provides and promotes a best-in-class service experience.
