Derivative Trade Operations Analyst

Full-time

Boston, MA or Springfield, MA (Hybrid)

The Opportunity  

As a Derivative Trade Operations Analyst, you will work in a fast paced, time-sensitive, collaborative environment. The individual will apply finance, investment knowledge and/or other technical skills within the middle office role. This role is directly involved with multiple projects including working with all functional areas within MassMutual, Barings, Business Analysts and our Investment Managers.  The collaboration within the multiple business areas is a key component towards our new Target Operating Model (TOM).

The Team  

The Analyst will report to the Director of Derivative Trade Operations within the Investment Management Division. The team is responsible for trade lifecycle management that includes validation, processing and confirmation. The effort entails the implementation of project Ballast to create efficiencies within our ecosystem. There is continuous development and knowledge growth for the team as new Derivative products are onboarded which makes this team unique. The team is also engaged in the design and configurations of the trade processing workflows related to our new ecosystem.      

The Impact:

Provide in-depth analysis on various Derivative products for conversion to a new system. Responsible for learning and onboarding new Derivative products and the associated life cycle events. Perform daily reconciliations for exchange traded and over-the-counter derivatives. Assist with development of procedures to facilitate business processes. Work with programmers to identify and correct data errors and identify necessary workflow and/or systems changes.

  • Processing of Derivative trades into current and future Derivative platforms
  • Resolving trade booking issues through communication with System Administration Team, Investment Management and Front Office Traders
  • Perform daily trade position reconciliations, including issue resolution using TriOptima and informing the appropriate business areas within the ecosystem of discrepancies
  • Responsible for the daily trade confirmation processing including aged reporting
  • Initiate and assist with broker relationships including Counterparty onboarding
  • Process allocations to different lines of business for various derivative products such as FX forwards, interest rate swaps, cross currency swaps, zero coupon swaps, total return swaps, options, futures and swaptions hedging specific investments
  • Supports the Derivative Life Cycle for both the Front Office and the Back-Office areas including Investment Management, Traders, Accounting and Tax
  • Liaise with data management teams for security master lifecycle event management
  • Monitoring and processing of NY DUP balancing of positions and transactions to report to the Investment Committee
  • Analysis for settlement discrepancy, review and resolution
  • Liquidation of Futures and Mortgage Backed Forwards  
  • Completing periodic Audit, Sarbanes Oxley and Quarterly Schedule DB reporting 

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, or other related field
  • 2+ years of investment trade operations experience with an understanding of systems and data management
  • 1+ years experience with investment operations processes and related data workflows and integration
  • 1+ years experience working with investment data providers and consumers to analyze, recognize issues and assist in issue resolution

The Ideal Qualifications

  • 2+ years of OTC and Exchange Traded Derivatives
  • 1+ years of TriOptima portfolio reconciliation
  • 1+ years of Calypso/Adenza Investment Systems
  • 1+ years of Murex Systems
  • 1+ years of Aladdin
  • 1+ years of experience in Life Insurance
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Effective communication skills with ability to address and resolve disputes t
  • Adapts to a fast-paced, high-intensity environment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to achieve deadlines
